The World Cup and Phrasal Verbs

In this video I explain common phrasal verbs and real English from comments that I took from a forum talking about the World Cup.

I’d love to know what you think about this English phrasal verb lesson! Let me know in the comments section below!

Comments from the forum:

  • For those living under a rock, England and the USA just moved on into the next round!
    • to move on – to advance
  • Now Canada….you need to get your shit together and make it into another World Cup. I am disappointed in us as a nation.
    • to make it – arrive
  • If the USA keeps it up and pulls a WC win by the end of this, I expect Glenn Beck to get down on all fours and lick the cleats of Captain America.
    • to keep something up – to continue doing something (can be positive or negative)
  • That game nearly gave me a heart attack. USA was able to make it despite these refs, but I suspect that they’re going to give USA plenty more bullshit in the next round.
  • I totally see this happening. But hopefully they can pull it off despite it all.
    • to pull something off – to succeed in doing something difficult
  • Great game! I go for the USA obviously, but I also love Spain. From time to time, I go for France, but they pissed me off this year (WTF FRANCE?) So, go USA and SPAIN. WOOHOO
    • to piss someone off – to make someone angry
  • I still am not over the fact that Ireland failed to qualify. That was some first-class bullshit.
    • to be over something/someone – to have recovered from a previously bad state (i.e. the flu, a cold, the loss of a loved one, a divorce, or Ireland not qualifying!)

Also, I just happened to stumble upon an AWESOME World Cup English dictionary including 55 pages of soccer terms! Just had to share it with you!
