“Ustedes” y “Vosotros” en Inglés

EL “YOU PLURAL”

Les han enseñado que hay una sola forma de “you” para el singular (tú y usted) y el plural (vosotros y ustedes). Puede ser que esto sea gramáticamente correcto, pero está muy alejado de la realidad del inglés que se habla cotidianamente. Parece que a los hablantes de inglés de Estados Unidos y otros países no les gusta tener un solo “you” y lo han compensado agregando un pequeño toque personal para hacerlo plural.

Hay distintas variantes del “you plural” y estoy segura que esta lección no las cubre todas. Sin embrargo, es una buena idea que se familiaricen con las formas más populares y sepan de su existencia.

 

Algunas de las Variantes de YOU PLURAL:

  • YOU ALL ……. Se usa en el sur de los Estados Unidos  (abreviación: Y’ALL).
  • YOU GUYS ……. Se usa en el norte de los Estados Unidos y Canadá.
  • YOUSE GUYS ……. Se usa en New York y alrededores.
  • YOU-UN ……. Se usa en los Apalaches, Estados Unidos.
  • YOU LOT ……. Se usa en Inglaterra (o: the lot of ya).
  • YOUS(E)  ……. Se usa en Escocia, Inglaterra y Australia.

En general, todos los hablantes de inglés hacemos una distinción entre el “you plural” y el “you singular” de algún modo. Sólo tienen que escuchar bien y lo aprenderán. Un consejo: utilizen el “you plural” que corresponda a la región en la que se encuentran porque no nos gustan las formas de “you plural” de los demás. 🙂

Scotland is part of the UK, so we can’t really say that “they say it in Scotland, and also in the UK”!!! (I’m from England)… Maybe you should do a lesson on the difference between UK/Britain/Great Britain/England etc…

It’s very confusing to me understand the English spoken from street than the English school, I know that the English from school is very polite! The people understand what I’m talking about but I don’t understand them very well. Every place has different ways to speak the english and it’s hard to learn it. That was my opinion! I knew it is an old personal pronoun in the english language but i thought maybe in some dialect in de english-speaking countries of Europe there would be some dialect which would use it. haha i did not knew it was used in Ireland, i certanly believe it. So if they use ye, do they also use “thou” somewhere, like in a really isolated little village or something??
